Surfing the Net and Other Mundane Activities

Another sorta productive day.  I woke up at 9 but figured it was too early for my brain to be even remotely functioning so I went back to sleep.  Woke up again at 11 and bummed around the house for a bit.  Went to the mall at 2 because it's my friend's last day working at her store so a bunch of us wanted to take advantage of the very generous discount she receives there.  So I bought a Luongo jersey and a sweet North Face goretex windbreaker (that I still spent waay too much on).  I felt kinda bad: when we got there we all sort of split up and while I was looking for a good windbreaker one of the sales guys was trying so hard to be super nice and help me but of course he wasn't going to receive any commission off his sale since I was getting it at at the employee discount price, which made me feel pretty terrible.

After that headed over to the library to study for my ling final tomorrow.  Took a while to get going (read: spent a couple hours wading through unread emails and surfing the net... oh wow that phrase makes me sound so un-hip but oh well) but once I got going my brain kicked into high gear.  About four hours of studying later and I'm pretty sure I know everything I need to.  It's really not that difficult of a course if you listen in class and have a reasonably analytical mind.  Went home, had dinner, and I've pretty much been bumming around since.  My final isn't until 7pm tomorrow so I pretty much have the entire day to review.  I feel like I should be worried about my lack of worry, but I'm just going to attribute it to the high calibre of studying I accomplished earlier :)

Oh something that made me lulz while studying: the name of the Hawaiian king who conquered the other islands in the 19th century was named Kamehameha, which totally reminds me of Dragonball Z.

Marginal Productivity

Quasi-productive past 24 hours from an educational (and personal) standpoint. What have I done? Well, to start off, I got an email from a girl who wants to buy my prom dress! WOOHOO! I put it up on craigslist yesterday thinking it was probably already too close to prom to sell it but lo and behold, someone wants it! Kinda sad to be selling it (such a pretty dress and lotsa great memories attached) but it's really just been taking up space in my closet.

After that I did indeed paint my nails. I did my fingers in OPI Elephantastic Pink, which turns out is a gorgeous colour!

I got it for christmas and was kinda hesitant to use it because in the bottle it looks incredibly Barbie-esque. But on my nails it's this gorgeously creamy pink that's just bright enough for the summer. Love! The picture (taken on my blackberry's terrible camera) doesn't do it justice - it's a lot more pigmented and definately more vivid. But what I really am quite proud of are my toes - I tried doing leopard print for the first time and it turned out pretty freakin' sweet if I do say so myself.

OPI Worth My Weight in Gold, OPI Ginger Bells, and Revlon Blackest Black.

Feet are so wierd. I'm going to try to start chronicalling all my manicures and pedicures here on this blog though, because I do have pretty spiffy looking nails most of the time and I think it'll be fun for me to show my grandkids when my nails are cracked and yellow that yes, at one point my nails did look nice.

Anyways, after that I started trying to collect all the design work I've done in the last few years, which was really hard to do because my computer crashed last year, so I had to scrounge for what I could through my email. I applied to be an exec for Sauder's Style and the City conference and my third choice was Creative Director so one of the chair's asked me to bring a portfolio of work. I was planning to print it all, but then realized that'd be a huge waste of ink and money so I threw together a website. I tried to do that last night but ended up on MSN chatting with friends. Oops.

Woke up at 1pm today (yesterday now I suppose) and had to rush and throw it all together. I haven't done any webdesign for literally a couple of years now so it took me a while to remember what to do. It turned out alright, though very plain because of the time pressure. Definately not the greatest work I've ever done. The work isn't very representative either because most of it is from my good ol' Xanga days. Still, you can check it out here: http://bettytang.webs.com/

That was definately a mad dash to the finish. I had to suit up, do my hair, and throw on makeup in literally 10 mins to make my bus to go to UBC for the interview, which I thought went pretty well. Fingers crossed anyways!

I got home at 9 and then put together my application to be an exec for Business Week because I really need to get a bit more involved at school. Alas, no studying has been accomplished for linguistics. That will have to start tomorrow.

Ok, 1:50 am. It's only been about 12 hours since I woke up but I feel like I should try to normalize my sleeping schedule so off to bed I go!

Procrastination and Pining

It's funny how much as students we whine and complain about how little time there is between our tests come finals season, yet with the time we do have we tend to waste by aimlessly checking facebook, playing WoW, searching for funny videos of cats, etc. My last final was on Sunday; Accounting, which was pretty brutal. My next one is this Friday. ie., I have FIVE whole days to study to totally ace this final. What have I been doing for the past two days? Well, I've caught up on sleep, cleaned my room, updated facebook, and searched for funny videos of cats. It just feels like too much time!

I am super stoked for summa to finally roll around though. My first official day of summer I'll be suiting up in a mascot suit (yes, I am a part-time mascot) for the Fingerling Festival in Port Moody, then meeting some friends downtown for some poutine to celebrate us having made it through first year. Then on Sunday or Monday (plans are still pretty much up in the air) I'll be road trippin' down to Seattle with one of my friends to check out Wong Fu Productions at the University of Washington. I still don't really know who they are but she convinced me to go, which wasn't too hard to do since as long as I get to shop at the outlets and at the Nordstrom Rack, I'm happy. And then when I get back I'm watching the Canucks at GM Place! SOO stoked, I've never been to a playoff game before! It's game 4, so it's gonna be rowdy - woohoo!

Ok, I guess I've wasted enough time today. Gonna go try to be productive and at least do my nails. Studying can start tomorrow.

Crunch Time

Well, here I am. I've got about 30 hours before I have to face my macroecon final, of which I am dreadfully afraid because I don't feel as though I know very much. I actually set out to start studying early for once (throughout pre-post-secondary and pretty much up until now I could get away with cramming the night before an exam) but that didn't really work out too well. I honestly think the whole adrenaline-rushed-mom lifting a car off of her kid situation totally applies to studying as well. Normally my brain really isn't all that responsive to or absorbant of information. I mean I can handle bits of new knowledge most days, provided I've gotten enough sleep but it seems that in the final 24 hours before a test or due date my stress level hits a threshold andn my pituitary gland kicks into high gear, producing tons of adrenaline that makes my brain akin to a sponge - at that point I'm pretty much only constrained by the time I have prior to an exam or whatever.

Anyways, what I mean to say is though I started trying to study for this exam last Wednesday, I only managed to finish reading through and taking notes of the textbook today - ie. about 10 minutes ago. I get distracted incredibly easy when not confronted with immediate peril. So tomorrow hopefully the stress will fully sink in and I can zoom through all of the lyryx lab questions and end of chapter questions. If not, hopefully my prof will do another 14% scale.... one can hope, right?

Speaking of hope, the Canucks game tonight (one of my many distractions from studying) was so full of hope, then dissappointment, hope again, frustration, and finally a crushed sort of sense of optimism... that of course was crushed by the Kings fifth goal. Booo! Hopefully the Comeback Kids can live up to their name and win the series.

And hopefully I can concentrate sans procrastination tomorrow.

do geese see god?

Alrighty well this is my first blog post here. The titles arn't quite as random as they sound - they're both palindromes, which I think is pretty darn cool.

The lecture we got in business communications today mostly centered around increasing our online presence in social media sooo... here I am with this!

My goal is to get myself (be it this blog or my linkedin or facebook profile) on the first page of results when you google my name, Betty Tang, by September of the upcoming school year. We'll see how this goes - wish me luck!
